Why your vial looks empty — lyophilised powder explained

Five milligrams of freeze-dried peptide occupies almost no visible volume. Here is what a correct lyophilisate should look like.

Milligrams are smaller than people expect

A 5mg fill is roughly the mass of a few grains of table salt. Spread across the base of a 3mL vial after lyophilisation, it can present as a barely visible film rather than a recognisable powder.

This is normal and is not an indication of an underfilled vial. Fill weight is confirmed gravimetrically before capping.

What a good cake looks like

A well-lyophilised peptide forms a light, even cake or a fine dusting with uniform colour. White to off-white is expected for most sequences; copper complexes such as GHK-Cu present as a distinct blue.

Transit vibration frequently breaks the cake into a loose powder or dislodges it to the side of the vial. This is cosmetic and does not affect the material.

When to be concerned

Signs worth flagging include visible moisture or a syrupy residue, browning or yellowing in a compound that should be white, and any visible particulate that is clearly not the lyophilisate.

Photograph the vial with the batch identifier legible and contact us — we replace any batch that fails visual inspection on arrival.
